Technical Overview
Intel XeonX5650 is part of the Xeon lineup and is built with Nehalem architecture and memory controllers. This Intel Xeon X5650 2.6GHz Processor is designed specifically for servers and workstations with a 32nm production node that uses 1170 million transistors.
X5650 Technical Overview
The X5650 is a high-performing server processor capable of handling several complex tasks simultaneously. This processor comprises hyper-threading technology that has doubled the thread count to 12, followed by 6 cores and LGA 1366 sockets. The performance of these systems can further be enhanced with up to two Xeon X5650 PCs that can work together in a multiprocessor SMP configuration. Furthermore, this processor can operate at around 2.66 GHz, which can boost up to 3.66 GHz depending on the workload. However, this processor consumes a great deal of power with a TDP of 95W. The multiplier is locked on Intel X5650, limiting its overclocking potential. Moreover, this Xeon Processor supports DDR3 memory that supports triple channel interface, i.e., DDR3-800, DDR3-1066, and DDR3-1333.
Additionally, the 2.66GHz processor supports several advanced features, such as ECC memory, that help with mission-critical and complex programs while minimizing the probability of data corruption. Further, this Intel Xeon CPU uses a PCI-Express Gen 2 connection. But this processor lacks integrated graphics, so you may be required to add a graphics card. The performance is impressive and surpasses most Ivy Bridge-based desktop CPUs, but it comes at an extremely high price.
